Krautrock: The Rebirth Of Germany – Documentary

One of the most under appreciated yet sonically important musical movements, Krautrock was born out a desire for complete cultural, social and political reinvention by young artists in post WW2 Germany. Drawing on a variety of sounds, merging elements of psychedelic rock, improvisational jazz, world music, avant-garde electronica and minimalism, the movement created a sound that was completely new, and free of any history or unwanted association with the generations that had come before it. This BBC documentary is a great introduction to the scene that spawned such influential bands as Kraftwerk, Can, Neu!, Faust, Popol Vuh, Tangerine Dream and many more.
